There is a shaft at the end of the niche which could be covered with a stone slab. The purpose of this niche has been a subject of discussion since detailed documentation appeared. The author believes that it is a well-hidden deposit box for a precious object of the castle's builder and defends his interpretation against the opinion that it was a toilet for prisoners.
