The castle, which consisted of a tall curtain wall and an eastern palace, was surrounded by a bulwark trench. Research further uncovered the remains of the later northwestern building, probably from the second half of the 14th century. In the Late Gothic period, under the Kužels of Žeravice and the Sternbergs, other palaces and utility facilities emerged in the courtyard, giving the castle core a greater variety of structures around 1500. The Renaissance reconstruction in the late 16th century transformed the castle into a chateau which was completed by the removal of the outside fortification in the 19th century.
