AB In 2019, research of the panel painting of the Crowned Virgin Mary in Telc Museum, a uniquely preserved regional panel painting of unknown provenance dating from around 1500, was initiated. X-ray and computed tomography techniques were used to analyse the work. Additionally, the object's reactions to a heat stimulus and to infrared radiation were also monitored and evaluated. The radiographic research that compared the painting style technique facilitated the verification of modern-day adaptations of the painting. The research also enabled the authors to describe some aspects of how the painting was created by examining the engraved and brush underdrawings covered with colour pigments. The findings support the assumption that prints of foreign provenance connected to Rosary Confraternities were adapted. Close analogies were found in the works of Martin Schongauer. Although the painting's provenance is yet to be identified, it is clear that sources recording the existence of the miraculous image of the Virgin Mary in the Church of the Mother of God in Telc refer to a statue. The painting was most likely made at the time of the Lords of Hradec which would point to art centres to the west of Telc. Formally and iconographically, the work continues the tradition of Bohemian Marian panel painting.
