The presented text concerns the sculptor Jindřich Weber whose professional life was not only tied to West Bohemia but also South Bohemia, particularly from the late 1740 s to the early 1760 s. The review of the literary and source records enabled, in some respects, to add to the current state of knowledge about this artist. The article follows the fate of the Late Gothic altarpiece in the Church of St John the Baptist in Chudenice from the time of its origin in the early 16th century to the present. For several centuries, this medieval artwork served as a medium for family presentation and memory and during the 19th and 20th centuries, it underwent multiple adaptations and restoration interventions. The altarpiece is viewed as a model example of the functioning, use, and perception of one work over a long period of time. The article deals with the building form of the medieval monastic church of the Benedictine Provostry in Broumov resulting from the reconstruction of the monastery castle during the 14th century. The church was built in the southern part of the compound in the third quarter of the 14th century. The Baroque reconstruction defines its current look; the perimeter walls up to the window ledges and the western tower with a Late Gothic room on today’s first floor have remained from the medieval structure.
